Woodland Pool

1 Acre(s)

Woodland Pool is the first water you come to when driving down the track to the lakes.

To be found on the right hand side, it is about a third of an acre in size and oblong in shape.

Because of its size no more than six anglers are allowed to fish it at any one time.

Holding a good head of carp to double figures with the majority in the 7lbs to 9lbs range, Woodland Pool is also stocked with some lovely roach to at least 1lb with some running to 2lbs, chub over 3lbs and a good head of perch to about 12oz.

Woodland Pool also holds good quality rudd to 2lb as well as some golden orfe.

Because the water is quite heavily stocked it is a great place for anglers who want to catch decent bags of fish rather than going for size as the bigger carp are in the other two Boyce waters.

When fishing Woodland Pool the most popular baits tend to be luncheon meat, sweetcorn, soft hooker pellets, paste and sinking bread for the carp with sweetcorn, pellets, paste, casters and maggots for the silvers.

One of the features of Woodland Pool is a central channel which runs down the spine of the lake where between eight and nine feet of water can be found.

The pool has a metre wide shelf which runs out from the bank and which varies in depth from about a metre at the woodland end to two metres in other parts of the pool.

After this the sides shelve steeply down to a fairly flat and even bottom which for the most part is between six and seven feet deep.

As with the other Boyce Holiday Park waters anglers should fish fairly light unless going for the carp when they are recommended to scale up their tackle to prevent fish being lost as these are fairly wild fish which give a good account of themselves once hooked.

Anglers should note that hemp, birdseed, nuts, pulses and very high protein baits are not allowed and neither is fishing floating baits such as bread or dog biscuits on any of the Boyce Holiday Park waters.
