Spring Valley Bottom Pool at Boyce Holiday Park can be found at the far end of Middle Pool and is another stunningly attractive water with plenty of bankside features although not as many beds of lilies as Middle Pool.

Between three and four feet deep immediately out from the left and right hand banks, the lake is about nine feet deep in the middle with six feet of water being found straight off the bank between Bottom Pool and Middle Pool and eight feet off the far end bank.

Bottom Pool is known to hold the biggest of the Boyce Holiday Park fish with some decent sized mirror and common carp running to at least 23lbs.

There are a lot of fish around the 15lb mark which are regularly caught.

Perhaps the nicest quarry are the roach which anglers have caught to over 3lbs and are in superb condition.

Roach between 1lb and 2lbs are said to be caught on a regular basis.

In addition there are good heads of rudd and perch whilst in the far left hand corner by the lily pads some good sized gudgeon can be caught.

Again suitable for pole, waggler, feeder or carping techniques, the roach and rudd in Bottom Pool respond well to casters and maggots although they can readily be taken on any small baits and will even have a go at bigger offerings.

When fishing for the carp it again pays to scale up your tackle with soft hooker pellets, luncheon meat, sweetcorn, bread flake and worm all being effective, particularly when fished over a bed of feeder pellets.

Because Bottom Pool is not over fished all species, irrespective of size, fight alarmingly well and bolt for the nearest cover once hooked.

Even the roach shoot off so quickly and strongly that anglers can be forgiven for initially thinking they have hooked into a carp.

As a result, anglers should respond quickly to bites and immediately turn the fish away from any snags and into open water where they can be played safely before being brought into the net.
